Title: Effect of Swing Bed Use on Medicare Average Daily Cost and Reimbursement in Critical Access Hospitals. Findings Brief (December 2011)
Abstract: This findings brief analyzes the cost-effectiveness in terms of Medicare expenditures of swing bed use to deliver post-acute care to inpatients in critical access hospitals (CAHs). It uses data from the Medicare Cost Reports for CAHs from 2000 to 2009 to compute the average daily cost that Medicare pays for inpatient swing bed care and compares the simulated daily costs of inpatient care without swing beds. The findings brief includes tables, a figure, and references.
