|Title:||Trends in Skilled Nursing Facility and Swing Bed Use in Rural Areas Following the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003. Findings Brief (August 2011)|
|Abstract:||This findings brief analyzes changes in and use of facility-based post-acute availability (swing bed care) in recent years. It uses the Skilled Nursing Facilities Medicare Cost Reports linked with county demographic information to compare micropolitan counties (those in urban core populations between 10,000 and 50,000) to more rural non-core based statistical area counties (those with an urban core of less than 10,000 or no urban core) and also compares Prospective Payment System hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals, two predominant types of hospital-based care in rural areas. The brief includes figures and a table.|
