|Title:||Independently Owned Pharmacy Closures in Rural America 2003-2010|
|Abstract:||This policy brief for policy makers, researchers, and stakeholders provides information about the closure of rural independently owned pharmacies, including sole providers of local pharmacy services, from 2003 to 2010 when both Medicare prescription drug discount cards and the Medicare drug benefit were introduced. It uses data from the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs and focuses on rural pharmacy closure because of the potential threat such closures present to any local pharmacy services in a community including providing medications as needed versus by mail, overseeing administration of medications to nursing homes and hospitals, and patient consultation. The policy brief includes a table, figures, and references.|
