Title: Toxics Release Inventory Discharges and Population Health Outcomes in Rural and Urban Areas of the United States: A Policy Brief From the West Virginia Rural Health Research Center. Policy Brief #2 (January, 2011)
Abstract: This brief presents findings from the study that investigated the association between air and water chemical releases from facilities monitored through the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) program and age-adjusted mortality rates nationally at the county level for both rural and urban populations. It examined the TRI air and water releases from 1988-2006 and population mortality rates from 1999-2006 for cancer, respiratory, cardiovascular and total causes; presents findings important for working class communities, minorities, and disadvantaged groups; and provides suggestions for improving health and preventing exposure to toxic emissions. The brief includes tables, figures, and references.
