Title: Quality of Care for Acute Myocardial Infarction: Are the Gaps Between Rural and Urban Hospitals Closing? Final Report #118 (March 2010)
Abstract: This report examines whether the gaps in quality of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care between rural and urban hospitals demonstrated admissions in the mid-1990s persist. It uses data from the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization database and a study population of 21,616 admissions of Medicare beneficiaries in 2000–2001 for AMI in different geographic areas (urban, large rural, small rural, and remote small rural) to determine disparities. The report presents major findings from the study as well as policy implications and includes tables and references.
