Inside HRSA: The October 2007 edition of Inside HRSA celebrates the agency's first 25 years by talking with Administrator Betty Duke about HRSA's future and by reviewing the major challenges and achievements of HRSA's first quarter-century with longtime policy hand Lyman Van Nostrand. The special anniversary issue also looks at how the mysterious and deadly arrival of HIV/AIDS in the 1980s forever changed the agency's focus and responsibilities and how HRSA regional staff in New York City maintained operations after the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center forced them from their nearby offices. As with every issue, Inside HRSA gives you a snapshot of current news and events and staff on the move.

Program In Focus: The Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention (LEAP) Program is a comprehensive prevention program developed at HRSA's Bureau of Primary Health Care. The mission of the LEAP program is to reduce the incidence of lower extremity amputations by educating primary care providers and patients about the use of the LEAP filament to screen for loss of protective sensation in the feet, a common complication of diabetes.
You can learn more about the LEAP Program by going to http://www.hrsa.gov/leap/. You can also view and order LEAP materials and other Bureau of Primary Health Care related publications by going to http://ask.hrsa.gov/Primary.cfm and clicking on the publication titles.
